Overview
Theresa Carli Pontieri joined Jimerson Birr, P.A. as a senior associate attorney in 2022 specializing in real estate, contract law, family law, and a broad spectrum of business litigation practice areas. Mrs. Pontieri approaches her work with business pragmatism, deliberate action, and passionate conviction. Mrs. Pontieri’s hard work and experience are highlighted through tough cases with complex legal issues. She welcomes the challenges that come with novel legal issues and thrives when her legal advocacy necessitates creativity and a fresh perspective. Mrs. Pontieri is well-versed in state-level trial and appellate work but is also a member of the Middle District Federal Court and is very active with bar associations in Duval, St. Johns, Flagler, and other surrounding counties.
Prior to joining Jimerson Birr, P.A., Mrs. Pontieri owned and operated her own successful law firm, representing both consumers and businesses in a variety of business-related legal disputes, as well as families in her family law practice. In addition to the legal knowledge and experience Mrs. Pontieri brings to our firm, she has also been a business owner in the food and beverage industry here in Jacksonville, allowing her to advise clients not solely from a legal perspective, but from a business owner’s perspective as well.
Mrs. Pontieri is also an elected official in Palm Coast, Florida, where she sits on City Council. Elected in November of 2023, she is currently serving a four-year term, encountering a bevy of issues that have only increased her breadth of knowledge on local business permitting, land use, land development, and the inner workings of local government.
Mrs. Pontieri was admitted to the Florida Bar after earning a Juris Doctor degree from Florida Coastal School of Law, graduating magna cum laude and earning several book awards in the areas of contract law. She also gave back to Florida Coastal as a mock trial coach and adjunct professor for several semesters. While in law school, she participated in Law Review, Moot Court, and Mock Trial, winning the National Mock Trial Competition in New York State. She also served as pro bono chair. Before law school, Mrs. Pontieri earned her undergraduate degree in legal studies from the University of Central Florida, where she also minored in sports and entertainment law.
Mrs. Pontieri grew up in Charleston, South Carolina after moving from Cincinnati, Ohio. While in high school and as an undergraduate, she was on the United States Karate team. As a third-degree black belt and international competitor, she was a member of two World Championship teams in 2000 in Madrid, Spain, and 2002 in Munich, Germany. Mrs. Pontieri was also an individual silver medalist in the World Championships, a bronze medalist at the Pan-American Games, and a bronze medalist in the Goodwill Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Today, Mrs. Pontieri lives in Flagler County with her husband, Rick, who is a lieutenant with the Osceola County Fire Department, and their three dogs (Bailey, Bacon, and Max) and cat (Beni). She spends her weekends addressing resident concerns in her City Council role, giving back to her community, cheering on her UCF Knights, and enjoying family. Mrs. Pontieri enjoys working out on her Peloton, playing with her dogs, and enjoying the outdoors with her husband.
